Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors are self-regulating heating elements capable of maintaining a nearly constant temperature across a wide range of voltage and dissipation conditions. They are available in various configurations including discs, rectangles, squares, cylinders, and shapes with holes to increase surface area. Multiple PTCs can be used in parallel for larger area heating. They offer advantages such as no thermostat requirement, low cost, virtually unlimited life, no electrical noise, and no moving parts.
